Peer Support Worker - Debora

My name is Debora, a Zambian citizen.

I have my Grade 12. I obtained a Certificate in Industrial Management. I also did diploma course in psycho social counseling, as a treatment supporter. Later I did a psycho social counseling workshop for  people living with HIV/AIDS NZP+. Courses included:

  • Introduction to counseling theory and practice; Facts on HIV and AIDS; HIV counseling and testing (HCT) guidelines; Human development;Bereavement and loss, death and dying,Stress management; Professional and ethical issues of counseling; Behavior change; Human sexuality; Counseling special groups (couples, children, MCH FOR EMTCT); Sexually transmitted infections; Counseling for public health conditions (immunization, Diabetes, Hypertension, Cancer, Infertility); Cholera; Typhoid; Cervical cancer; Tuberculosis; Immunization; Early infant diagnosis

I was raised by my grandmother, a Pastor. I am an only child, my mother died during my birth. At 5 years of age, I accepted Jesus as my personal savior. I met a pastor who began nurturing me in the word of God after identifying the prophetic gift as a seer (Prophet). I moved and worked with him in Ministry for about 6 years. Later, I met other pastors who I worked with as well. There was a great report concerning the gift that God had given to me. People flocked in numbers and the church became full.

I then went to a Bible College for a theological college for a Diploma course, for three years where I met an Apostle. I worked well with him and the church grew and up to now good things are happening in the church. All my entire life I have lived a God-fearing life as I was born in a priestly family.

I have experienced a lot concerning Ministry and gifting and I have exercised maturity and wisdom in handling things. I really appreciate God. I have had crusades and revival meetings in Tanzania, Botswana, Namibia, Congo DR, and here in Zambia.

I have been invited to preach the word of God through media and studios. I have experience in spreading the gospel in schools and communities, and determination prayers. I thank God for the gift God has given me.

The challenges I faced from childhood was that I never had friends. I experienced mysterious rejection at church and in the community because of my gift. Some people referred to me as a Satanist, a Witch and a Devil because whatever I said about their life came to pass. Some Pastors wanted to abuse me sexually while working in their Ministry and this made me to leave and run away from their church. I have been thrown in jail, in psychiatric hospital on suspicion that I was mentally unstable.

The people that I want to help are those who are born different, and are outcast in society due to their deformation or disfigured the body parts. I want to help the vulnerable and orphans. I am a double orphan myself, and I fully understand the pains they go through. If people like this given some skills and training, it can help people who are born differently to fend for themselves instead of opening up to wrong persons who may and usually take advantage of them to exploit their deformity and sense of low self-esteem. This will help them to overcome depression due to their conditions.

I encountered a Scientist who has become my mentor and emotional supporter who encouraged me to try and reach out to others in my shoes.

Presently, I work for a security company in my country.

Thank you for reading my story. I offer myself as a peer support worker or a counselor to anyone who feels I can help them in their life journey.

“But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
