Finding healing from anxiety, depression and addictions is not as difficult as one might think. Adopting the disciplines below can make a real difference in our enjoyment of life and our success in life. Occasionally, people go through serious trauma and these trauma’s can impede the moving forward with our lives. For these there is counselling. Good ministries to try are Trauma Healing Institute , Healing Care International and Freedom In Christ Ministries.
Tip #1 – Choose a Home Church
Fast-Track Tips start with choosing a good home church where God’s Word is taught accurately and where the people are committed to giving God their all for Him. It can be a difficult task choosing a home church, so we can help you with that. One of our helpers can call you and go over the various churches in your area and help you choose a good one if you are need of one.
Tip #2 – Read Your Bible
Set a specific time in the morning when you start your day by meeting with God through Bible reading and prayer. A good regimen is reading 4 chapters a day. Read a chapter in the Gospels and Acts ( Gospels are Matthew, Mark Luke and John), a chapter in the Epistles (The Book of Romans to Revelations), a chapter in the Old Testament, and a chapter in Proverbs. Consider reading a printed book so you can write notes in it.
Tip #3 – Pray
Personally, I do not have an elaborate way of praying. There are books on prayer, which I have not read yet, but hope to one day. For now, I use a list. I pray for my family members, asking God to protect each one, and for God to reveal Himself to each one in a new way that day. And asking Him to help my family members be 100% committed to serving Him. God needs us to be serious about our walk with him because there are so many needs in the world. We all need to live close to God so we can sense his guidance in the things we do in our lives. We also want to stay close to God so we can enjoy Him.
I also pray for friends and people I know who are struggling. I lift up their need to God. Then follow-up prayers are prayers of thanking God that He heard my first prayer and that He is actively working on resolving the issue.
I also pray for my friends from school. I am part of a high school alumni group that has a Facebook group and we share stories there. We also meet occasionally for dinners. We celebrated 50 years since our graduation recently. It was fun.
I also pray for my co-workers. And I pray for my neighbours. These groups of people are our mission field, and we want to be faithful to God by being the best that we can be, so it reflects well on our God.
Tip #4 – Watch or Listen to Good preachers and Bible Teachers
There are so many good preachers and teachers out there. Youtube is very helpful for Christians who want to develop their relationship with God. One day I will find time to add some links of good messages for people to listen to. Lately I been enjoying early sermons from Billy Graham. If I want to learn about faith, I listen to Dr. Frederick K. C. Price. If I want to be stretched and challenged in my walk with God, I listen to Paul Washer, R.C. Sproul or John MacArhur.
Tip #5 – Speak God’s Word
There is nothing more important for us to say than God’s Word. Everything else pales in comparison. This is a good test of our love for God. He values His Word and tells us to speak it day and night. If this is true, and it is; How much of your day is spent speaking God’s Word? If God wants us to speak His Word day and night, how can we do that if we aren’t at a table reading it? Enter: Memorizing.
Tip #6 – Memorize God’s Word
Personally, I’ve memorized about 250 Bible verses. This allows me to go through my day quietly speaking God’s Word all day long. I forego the pleasure of listening to music, I’d rather hear God’s Word. It’s more energizing. It keeps me spiritually sharp. Satan, our arch enemy, is always looking for ways to deceive us and tone-down our walk with God, but I won’t let him. I want to be my best for God. He gave his Best for me (Jesus), I want to give my best for Him. This reminds me of the devotional I read at breakfast: My Utmost For His Highest by Oswald Chambers.
So far, for me, the best way to memorize is by saying 3 or 4 words at a time, about 20 times. Then read the next few words 20 times. Then join the 2 phrases saying them 20 times. Keep doing that until you’ve completed the verse. Always saying the citation of the verse (where it is found) as well. When reciting the verses I have found that when I say the citation (ie. John 10:10), the verse just rolls off my tongue without trying.
Tips #7 – Sing
Singing does more to raise our mood quickly than anything else. No wonder that singing and praising is mentioned so often in the Bible.
Back in the 70’s and 80’s, we would have an hour of Sunday School before the morning service. Before everyone went to their individual classes, they always had a group session. In that open session, they would sing lots of short choruses, great for kids and adults to learn quickly. They were usually peppy and had great lyrics. We suggest that you take time to listen to these choruses and choose some songs that make you happy and thankful for Jesus. Sing them during your day. Below are some links. Jesus told us that unless we come to Him as little children, we cannot enter the kingdom of God (Matt 18). One way to do that is by singing these songs.
