Old Man, New Man
The Bible talks about our “old man” and our “new man”. See the scriptures below.
There needs to come a moment in each man or woman, boy or girl’s life where they see the horrible state of their lives because of the sins they have committed. By the time a person finds out that their wrong-doing is actually a serious problem in the eyes of God, they may have committed a great number of sins and are headed for eternal, spiritual damnation.
On the other hand, some people grow up in a godly home where they are taught Bible principles that help them produce a beautiful, wholesome, loving, peaceful personality and godly behavior. During the course of their biblical training, at some point they are taught that mankind is a “fallen” species. That means that they are prone to do wrong and think wrong. And, that the penalty for sin is eternal punishment. Even though they have had good biblical training growing up, they will still have committed some sins, though fewer.
Whether we have sinned much, or sinned little, the penalty for sin is still eternal punishment.
When a person finally sees this, and they accept the free gift of forgiveness, through the sacrifice of Jesus, there comes into play the concept of the “old man” and the “new man”. Once they receive Jesus Christ as their personal saviour, God places a “new man” in their life, a being who helps them make right choices. Now every day that person gets to make a choice of “which man” is going to steer their lives. Letting the “old man” that is selfish and prone to sin, steer their lives, they live lives that may exhibit the following behaviours:
Lying, Anger, sexual Immorality, covetousness, hypocrisy, idolatry, pride, laziness, greed, gossip and slander, unforgiveness, division and conflict, substance abuse, failure to love,
Engaging in these behaviours will lead to unhappiness and eternal death.
Allowing the “new man” to steer our lives, we will engage in the following behaviours:
Love, joy, peace, forbearance, patience and tolerance, kindness, showing compassion, caring for others, goodness, acting morally and ethically, faithfulness, being loyal and trustworthy, gentleness, self-control.
Engaging in these behaviours will lead to a life that is easy, rewarding and fun. And in the end, on judgment day, we are welcomed into heaven with open arms.
Who is steering your life? The “old man” or the “new man”?

“Dear God, I see the sins that I have committed. I believe Jesus paid the penalty for my sin by His crucifixion. I receive your forgiveness for my sin. And I ask you to come into my life, and help me to live the rest of my life in a way that pleases you. Amen.”
