Peer Support Worker - Lilian
Hey, my name is Lilian (and Ever-smiling). I’m in my late 20’s. I am number six in a family of eight, having 3 brothers & 4 sisters. I was born a church-goer, Zambia being a Christian nation, almost everyone goes to church though few know Christ Himself. One of my brothers joined a certain church at school. When he came back from school he used to take us this church. From there, I came to know Christ when I was about 12 years old. I got baptized when I was 15. My Christian life has been a journey of ups and downs. I reached a point where I gave up because I felt God wasn’t with me or seeing my pains, but graciously God brought me back to His presence. I am now a mature Christian who is able to encourage those who want to give up like I did at one point. As a Christian I have learned that God’s Word is vital for a believer without it you can easily fall or go astray.
Education wise, I am a grade 12 certificate holder. I also did hotel management & food production. In addition I have skills in front office, entrepreneurship & sensitizing. Work experience I worked as a teacher at a private school for a year, then I worked as a cashier at a blocks manufacturer company, I have also worked as a cashier at a computer company and relief aid. Lastly I worked as a shopkeeper before starting my own stationary business last year.
I grew up in both a city and a village. Growing up the biggest challenge was poverty because I was born in a poor family where even providing a meal was difficult. Seeing other kids having enough to eat & wear was painful to me because I thought my parents were not doing enough. As time went by I understood the situation and adapted to it. I thank God today we are not poor as we were then, we afford 3 meals a day by grace. Growing up as a teenager came with its ups and downs as a girl. My friends influenced me to do a couple of things which have come with big life lessons and regrets in my life. If there is a part of my life where I experienced disappointment or depression mostly, I would say it is my love life and my acting career. I once gave up on love because each time I tried, it brought pain. But I am strong enough to try again because this time Christ is helping me. My acting career has been frustrating as well. I tried everything I could but I do not give sexual favours, so I decided to take a break and return to it some other time. Given a chance to describe myself, this is what I would say: I am strong, loving, friendly, professional, fun, God fearing and hardworking, because this is what I see when I see myself in a mirror. I find interest in sharing the Word of God with saints, watching movies and soccer, and listening to music.
This is my short story of me the detailed one is a very long one. I hope it helps to know me. I would love to be a peer support worker so I can help & comfort someone who is passing through what I overcame by the grace of God, and secondly I want to be a vessel God can use to touch lives and I know through peer support work God will touch lives. Peace be with you.
Lilian
